Pigeons and other birds seem harmless at first, but their droppings, nests and feathers quickly turn terraces and roofs messy—and sometimes unhealthy.
One basic step is to avoid feeding them on terraces or window sills. Regular feeding teaches them that your building is a food zone, and they invite all their friends.
Netting is an effective solution for balconies and certain roof edges. Properly installed, it prevents birds from sitting or nesting in ledges without harming them.
Spikes or angled strips placed on parapet tops, AC units and favourite perches make it uncomfortable for birds to sit there. They don’t hurt the birds but discourage long stays.
Clean droppings regularly using masks and gloves. Dried droppings can carry bacteria and are not good to inhale.
If your entire building has a severe pigeon issue, it’s better to tackle it as a society-level project instead of individual DIY fixes.
