A Simple Wardrobe Clean-Up Routine That Stops Clothes From Exploding Everywhere

Wardrobes don’t become messy in one day. It’s that slow build-up—“I’ll just shove this in for now”—that suddenly turns into an avalanche when you open the door. A small, regular routine keeps things under control.

Once a week or fortnight, pick just one section: T-shirts, pants, ethnic wear, or shelves with random stuff. Don’t attack the whole wardrobe at once; that’s how people burn out.

Within that section, make three piles: keep, maybe, and remove. “Keep” goes back neatly. “Remove” is for clothes that no longer fit, are too worn out, or you simply never reach for. “Maybe” is a parking lot—come back to it at the end and decide.

Fold clothes in a way you can see them—stacking everything in tall piles means you only ever use the top few. Vertical folding or smaller piles help.

Keep a small bag in or near the wardrobe for donations. When it fills, pass it on. That way, outgrown or unloved clothes don’t linger forever.

This light but consistent routine stops your wardrobe from becoming a monster that explodes every time you tug one sleeve.
